Biotechnology; in particular white and green biotechnology- has something to offer when it comes to ensuring enough energy for transportation. The use of renewable raw materials and advanced enzyme systems enable industry to offer energy solutions which are effective and which contributes to the needed reduction in CO2 emmissions. In particular second generation biofuels are very promising. But second generation biofuels are still in their infancy and not really commercially available. Europe needs to work fast in order to get the right policy measures established which can ensure a success story for the benefits of the whole European society. Kirsten will be speaking about biofuels and sustainable development in Europe, strengths and potentials of 2nd generation biofuels and policy measures to ensure success.
